As a child my family moved every two to three years. As a result, I grew up in various communities up and down the east coast. I came to Blacksburg in 2006 for a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. After graduation I stayed in Blacksburg and worked as an events manager at the Inn at Virginia Tech and the Blacksburg Country Club. After a childhood of bouncing around I have planted roots in Blacksburg and this community has become the place I think of as home. As a mother raising kids in Blacksburg I have learned that there is so much more to appreciate about our area than I realized as a student and a young professional. I love that our community offers the opportunity to meet families with so many different backgrounds. I appreciate the balance that Blacksburg offers between being a place that attracts people from around the world while also maintaining a small town feel, where you are never more than a few people removed from knowing anyone who lives here. This aspect of Blacksburg makes it feel like a place where everyone is family. As a family, I think we all have a role to play in helping each other succeed. Being part of a project that helps people attain safe and secure housing is a small way I am excited to give back to this community that has helped me build a home and raise a family.
