I am proud to be an almost lifelong resident of the New River Valley. My family moved to Christiansburg from Lincoln, Nebraska when I was less than one year old. Apart from a three-year hiatus, I’ve lived here ever since. After graduating from Christiansburg High School, I attended Virginia Tech and received bachelors and masters degrees in accounting. Upon completion of my schooling at Tech, I started my professional career in public accounting at a local accounting firm in Blacksburg while my wife (also a Christiansburg and Virginia Tech alumnus) attended medical school at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). We moved to Durham, NC while my wife completed her residency in family medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill. I continued my career in public accounting at a local accounting firm during our time in Durham. While in Durham, we started our family with the birth of our first daughter and after completion of my wife’s residency, we returned to the NRV to be near family. What a wise decision that was! We’ve raised two small children in Blacksburg and love everything our area has to offer. I’ve experienced the lack of affordable housing in two college towns throughout my life. The inaccessibility to affordable housing can obviously change the landscape of a town. I hope my children can continue to grow up in an area that provides opportunities to everyone, regardless of the circumstances that life has presented them. This is why I’m so excited to be a part of SHP!
